Weekly Update for December 25, 2023

I pray you have a restful and relaxing break as we celebrate the birth of our Savior. Unless something pressing happens, there will be no update next week.

All Staff

BOTR

The fence gates are up and look marvelous. I was out opening and closing them on Thursday.
The flooring will be put on the second floor over break. Be careful if you go in there and avoid the taped-off areas.

Other Maintenance Projects

Over the break, we will add a few picnic tables (Thank you, PTO) to the playground and have a basketball hoop mounted to the side of the school (Thank you, Aaron Wellhoefer and Josh Landwehr)
The stoves in the kitchen will be removed by a 3rd party. These will be replaced by a single residential stove.

Windows are up in the meeting room. Finish work will be forthcoming.

Our next step will be to pick out a curtain color

one vote for Navy so far.

If you made a request for an exterior door key, you may pick that key up from Zandalee after the break.

Faculty

We will be making some adjustments to our morning devotional. On our first day back, we will be shifting to the Dawn (Lauds) devotion. We will continue to meet in teams afterward; however, on Tuesdays and Fridays, we will have ALL staff working with 7th & 8th Grade meet to discuss our ongoing plans to support the learning of the students in that classroom. This will mean the following changes:

Melissa will join Jean J, Julie, & Kristin on Tuesdays & Fridays.
Aaron will join the Liz and Ashley on Tuesdays & Fridays

There will be no change to teams on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays.

Now that the fence is up, I would like to get a banner or two developed and hung. Here is the preliminary design. Feedback is welcome. One thing that may happen is splitting it into two separate banners. One would be for general use, and one would be for enrollment.

Finally, with our vision work nearly complete, I have started on a new handout that can be used to explain our mission and vision to prospective families. You can find it here. The second page, especially, needs much work, so your feedback is appreciated.

Faculty

No Eagle next week. The Eagle will again be out on January 11.

The library will accept returns only on December 20 with the goal of getting all library books back before the Christmas break. Please plan accordingly.

SOAR

Thank you for your continued work and effort as we teach, notice and practice all things SOAR! It is a busy time of year and can be hard for both kids and adults to meet expectations, but we are noticeably learning and growing and our kids are, too! I’m blessed to be in this wonderful ministry with you all! Enjoy your Christmas celebrations next week Wednesday and we’ll resume whole school PBIS activities in January. Thanks!

I am planning a walkthrough on Tuesday, December 12 at 4:45; all are welcome to join us in the meeting room at this time

The library will function as a return only on December 20 to get all library books back before the Christmas break. Please plan accordingly.

If you have any student directory changes, please get those to Zandalee by the end of the day on Monday, December 11.

SOAR

Our PBIS activity on 12/13 is in the gym. It is our last BASIC group activity before winter break. Look for the Logistics and Plans slides by Monday morning in the Whole School PBIS document. Thanks!

The painters were unable to finish painting on Friday. They will be back on Wednesday, December 6.
They will be working on fencing around the playground on December 11 & 12 (possible 2-day playground shutdown)
Windows will be installed in the meeting room on December 8.

Ladies Aid will hold its annual luncheon on Tuesday, December 5, in the Fellowship Hall. This means that we will not have lunch in the fellowship hall (we will need to pickup and go to our classrooms), but we will be allowed to join them for lunch that day.

SOAR

December 6 will be a classroom PBIS. Remember, just like math or writing, we must explicitly teach what we want our students to know and do regarding behaviors. And just like us, those students may forget how to do those things. December 6 would be a great day to remind students how we SOAR in church and chapel.
