Weekly Update for June 26, 2023

God's Blessings on your week!

All Staff
We were informed last week that the completion date for the Built on the Rock project has been pushed back to December 15. We continue to pray for the workers and all those involved in the construction.
Additional BOTR Updates include:
Electrical switchover - 7/14

The building networking project is progressing. The estimated completion date is now July 14.

Due to increased enrollment, we have added an additional section to our 3K/4K program. This will mean some shuffling of our Classroom Aides. We are still working on the finer details of this additional section. More to come on this.

At the June 20 Church Council Meeting, it was confirmed that all staff can take advantage of voluntary 403b (similar to 401k) benefits. If you would like to participate in this voluntary program by setting aside a small portion of your income for retirement, please contact Lisa Ziegert.

Faculty
No Faculty specific updates this week.

Weekly Update for June 19, 2023

God's Blessings on your week!

All Staff
Significant progress this week with the BOTR project. I know it was hard to conceptualize the courtyard space before, but with the fill and all the "walls" in place, you can really see what it is starting to look like. We can provide input on this space and think about how we can use this space for our students. Do we want an education space, a quiet space? Your thoughts are appreciated. The possibilities are endless...

Here are some pictures of the courtyard at Mt. Olive in Appleton.

Additional BOTR Updates include:
Playground fix scheduled to start 6/19
Electrical switchover - 7/14

Melissa Koenig is moved in. A special thank you goes out to Rick Meves, Aaron Wellhoefer, Staff Minister Schaewe, and Pastor Flunker, who made the trip to Bemidji and back.

For those planning field trips to FVL High School, you can access the 2023-2024 FVL School Events Calendar here. Thanks to Ashley for this link to the 1-page pdf.

The last 2 days of meeting with the School Leadership team have made it clear that we, as a staff, need to recalibrate and reset after Covid, our student growth, and the staffing changes we have encountered over the last 5 years. Please plan to join us on August 8 to complete this work. We will also add a 2-hour training for our staff on July 31 before the optional technology training.

Teacher Mailboxes have been rearranged to accommodate the staffing changes. Please double-check to make sure you are pulling from the correct box.

Please place all block plans in the appropriate folder.
At the June 12 PTO Meeting:
  • It was announced that Nate Hepner will be stepping in as chairman of the PTO
  • Approval was given to spend PTO funds on the purchase of picnic tables for the playground area
At the June 13 Board of Christian Education Meeting:
  • The School Handbook was approved
  • The Board of Education Policy Manual was approved
    • An Expulsion Policy was added
    • Language regarding Teacher Summer Vacation was removed so that we are in alignment with Church Policy
      • Church Policy - Teachers can take vacations whenever they are not required to be at school by either the Principal or the Board of Education. It is expected that the following be fulfilled during the summer months: a) lesson planning, b) parent visitations, c) in-service meetings, d) Bible study, e) faculty assignments, f) extras for the classroom.
  • $7000 in scholarships were awarded

Weekly Update for June 12, 2023

God's Blessings on your week!

All Staff

As part of the Network Infrastructure Upgrade, we will be adding equipment racks to the existing mailroom (magazines/books will be gone), the fellowship hall closet (above the sound equipment rack), and the furnace room (we will need to relocate the fire extinguisher). There will be a little noise as they drill through our concrete walls and run cable.

Jared acquired a "new to us" phone system (with an assist from Jason Schmidt). This will advance our phone system about 40 years. With the new network going in, it will also allow us to get a working phone in every classroom.

Faculty
I learned today that none of our second-chance EANs funding requests were approved. Fortunately, we have contingency plans for all the proposals, which means we won't be able to free up that money in our current budget.

I will be working from home from June 19 - 30 and will only be in the office for essential meetings during that time.

Weekly Update for June 5, 2023

God's Blessings on your week!

All Staff
Thank you to everyone who took the time since our meeting to clean the closet by the fellowship hall. Remember, you have until June 30 to move or label items in that closet.
The following steps will be next in our summer cleaning of this area:
  • Moving all Christmas and play-related items from the Fellowship Hall closet to the paint space under the stairs. I will get some students to assist with that work in July.
  • Moving Foss Kits out of the meeting room to the available space in the Fellowship Hall closet. We need to clear out at least a wall so Steve Fabry and Joel Neumann can make the windows visible and set up our new sound system equipment.
The FVL ELA Curriculum Committee could not come to a consensus last Friday. With the EANS deadline on Monday, I decided to submit a proposal for Grades 5, 7-8 for Amplify.

I have started including links at the blog's bottom so they are all "in one place." If you know of others we should include, please let me know.

I have started to work on sheets to be hung outside the doors of each room. These will be used to communicate with our Trustee team regarding the important work to prepare our classrooms for the next school year. Please take a moment to review the one for your classroom and update it by June 12. I will print these and hang them outside classroom doors at that time.

This summer, I will be taking two courses. The first is Bible History I, which runs asynchronously from June 5 to July 28. The second is Principles of Christian Education which runs synchronously from  June 19 to June 30, 8-12:15 AM, Monday through Friday. I share that because I will not be in the office much from June 19-June 30, other than previously arranged meetings.
