Weekly Update for November 20, 2023

BOTR

• The main lot is now available for parking

• We are being asked to park in the north lot sometime after Thanksgiving

• The basketball hoop area should be completed before Thanksgiving

• They will be working on fencing in December (2-day playground shutdown) - Date TBD

SOAR

There is no Wednesday PBIS activity scheduled for next week as we don’t have school on Wednesday. However, we have Camp Read Away scheduled for Tuesday in the gym from 10-11. Please have 6th-8th graders come to the gym at 10:00 am to receive instructions for setting up their fort for their group. I will have the supplies they need. Then please plan to have 3K-5th grade students join us at 10:15 am to read together in their forts from 10:15 am - 10:45 am. At 10:45 am, 3K-5th grade students will head back to class, and the 6th-8th graders can help me pick up. I will have more detailed plans by Monday morning in the Whole School PBIS Plan document. Thanks!

Forward Exam Updates (Grades 3-8)

• All students must now wear headphones during testing and will have access to the Text-to-speech capability. Students will need to be trained in how to use the headphones. Students who cannot use headphones will need to be tested separately.

• There will be oral Spanish translation available as well. Spanish stacked translations may be used in conjunction with the oral Spanish translation.

• The Forward Exam in 2024 will be using the updated Math and ELA standards 

• Test results will be available later in the summer due to a need to review and update the scoring methodology

• There will now be 3 sections (instead of 4) for ELA

• Reading Comprehension

• Language Arts/Writing (x2)

• The ELA test will include two short writing tasks (examples forthcoming)

• Students will be asked to write a paragraph in response to a prompt

• The testing environment has been updated and will have a new look

SOAR

We will be in the gym for PBIS on November 15th. The plans will be available in the Whole School PBIS document after I receive an updated chapel schedule from Peter. Thanks!

All Staff

BOTR - Parking will be a major challenge in November, with a lot of work in the parking lot. We will see a shrinking lot, culminating with no lot access from November 16 to November 21. Art will be contacting our neighboring church to see how many spots we will be able to use when our lot is closed. Beginning on November 10, we will move to Gym/Activity center pickup and run this through December 1. We will also make the playground parking lot available for parents to park for end-of-the-day pickup from November 10 to December 1.

When you send kids to the office for early pickup, please remind them to go to the office. Twice this week, we had kids head outside instead of meeting their parents in the office.
